New Member Benefit Helps Members Efficiently Network All Year Long

The Association of Diesel Specialists (ADS) announces a brand-new benefit called ADS 24/7. This new service, offered exclusively to members at no charge, utilizes advanced technology enabling members to network throughout the year.

“Association surveys consistently find that members find networking to be the top value of membership,” stated ADS CEO Scott D. Parker. “In the past, networking through ADS generally happened at our in-person events. While the networking at ADS events are amazing, not every member can attend each of our events and the events only last a few days. Now, ADS members will be able to stay connected throughout the year.”

What is ADS 24/7?

ADS 24/7 is a digital member collaboration platform to promote networking, knowledge sharing and collaboration among ADS members.

ADS 24/7 features a full membership directory with 1,500 industry leaders across the globe. Members can search the directory for all members, service members only or vendors only. The service and vendor directories have filters so you can locate those you want to connect with easily. Members can add others as contacts within the system and send a message though ADS 24/7.

ADS 24/7 also features various communities that members can connect with one another, compare notes, exchange information, post questions, share knowledge and experiences. There are two ways to interact with the communities. Members can post questions and receive answers by logging into the website or they can simply send an email to a custom email address. Both will create a log of the information to store so other members can search the system on that in the future. Each committee has its own community. The Association of Diesel Specialists (ADS) is pleased to announce that Bryan Menke, owner of R&R Engine and Machine, is the new President of ADS. He assumed office on Sunday, January 19, 2025, in Grapevine, Texas, at the annual ADS International Convention. Menke, a second-generation business owner, brings a lifetime of experience to the role. He has served on various committees within the association, held a seat on the Board of Directors for two terms and was also elected to the Executive Board. 

On that same day, Gord Reid, of N.W. Fuel Injection Service, Ltd., became the association’s Vice President/Treasurer and Michael Oliveros, of Williams Diesel Service, became the association’s Secretary.

ADS Announces Bosch Bonus Session at "Get Acquainted Reception" at Automechanika Frankfurt 2024

George Arrants, Vice President, ASE Education Foundation will present "What Makes Technicians Leave? And How to Stop Them" at the 2024 ADS Convention in Grapevine, Texas.

Arrants will present "What Makes Technicians Leave? And How to Stop Them" at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center. The convention runs from January 21-22, 2024 immediately preceding Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week (HDAW) and features the latest industry education sessions as well as numerous networking opportunities.

When an ADS service member has a quality technician leave, it creates a major void that is difficult to fill. This session will address the challenges of retention and recruitment of technicians. ASE Foundation’s Arrants will share his insights into what really motivates technicians to leave employers. It’s more than just pay. He will offer practical and actionable tips on how ADS members can strengthen relationships with existing technicians and create relationships with technical schools to supplement their workforce effectively.

Biography

Arrants is longtime Automotive Education Consultant specializing in ASE Accreditation. He has worked with instructors and administrators to develop partnerships with local business and industry through the programs advisory committees and guides them through the ASE program accreditation. Arrants also chaired the American Trucking Associations' Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) SuperTech competition for 14 years, as well as its FutureTech Skills Competition. In 2015 he was awarded TMC's highest honor the Silver Spark Plug. He also holds three U.S. patents and holds ASE certifications in Automotive & Medium/Heavy Duty Truck, Parts Specialist (Truck & Auto) and Service Consultant.

Kevin will present "2nd Generation HEUI for International & Ford 6.7 troubleshooting and repair" at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center. The convention runs from January 21-22, 2024 immediately preceding Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week (HDAW) and features the latest industry education sessions as well as numerous networking opportunities.

The Association of Diesel Specialists will be hosting a three-hour technical training class at no charge for registered attendees at the 2024 ADS Convention in Texas on January 21, 2024.

Industry expert Kevin Looney will present information related to 2nd generation HEUI for International and on the 6.7 Ford troubleshooting and repair. It will include a discussion of the unique fuel delivery system found on these engines and some tips for diagnosing them. This will cover EPA 04, 07 & 10.

Variable geometry turbocharging (VGT) and general aftertreatment principals will be included. Engine performance issues that commonly lead to aftertreatment concerns will be discussed as well.

Kevin Looney has been maintaining and repairing equipment and vehicles for nearly 40 years, with a primary focus on domestic light, medium, and heavy duty diesel vehicle diagnosis and repair. Repairing everything from classic/historic trucks and equipment, to the latest computer controlled fully networked vehicles, Kevin has built a business known for getting the job done right. As a both a shop owner and working technician, he brings a unique combination of technical expertise, subject knowledge and hands on experience to the classroom.

Building on a collaborative relationship with Bruce Amacker's Turbo Training has allowed Kevin to expand his skill set to include educating.  Kevin now splits his time between his shop in Phoenix Arizona, and a busy training schedule.

The world-renowned venue, most notably known for being home to the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys, will host HDAW’24 attendees on the field on Wednesday, January 24 for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, featuring exclusive access to the stadium, music, food, drinks, and more.

Commander Kirk Lippold, USN (Ret.) will present "Leadership and Accountability When it Matters" at the 2024 ADS Convention in Grapevine, Texas.

Gainesville, Virginia – September 5, 2023 - The Association of Diesel Specialists (ADS) announces the keynote speaker for the 2024 ADS International Convention and Trade Show will be Commander Kirk Lippold, USN (Ret.). Commander Lippold will present "Leadership and Accountability When it Matters" at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center. The convention runs from January 21 to 22, 2024 immediately preceding Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week (HDAW) and features the latest industry education sessions as well as numerous networking opportunities.

Commander Kirk Lippold, USN (Ret.) was the Commanding Officer of the USS Cole when it came under a suicide terrorist attack by al Qaeda in the port of Aden, Yemen. This event is widely recognized as one of the most brazen acts of terrorism by al Qaeda prior to September 11, 2001.

The privilege and burden of leadership comes with a level of accountability that many aspire to emulate, and anyone can rise up to and achieve. Realizing the importance of the Right to Repair to ADS diesel service shops, the ADS Board unanimously approved the ADS Right to Repair position that:

• Advocates for independent repair shops to have access to the technology and parts necessary to service vehicle engines and the components thereof.
• Approves supporting right to repair legislation.
• Authorizes the officers of the Association in coordination with Association staff, to take all reasonable actions to support the position of the Association on right to repair, including authoring position statements and endorsing position statements from other organizations.

“I will work with the elected leaders of the association to determine the most effective path forward for ADS to support the Right to Repair initiatives,” stated ADS CEO Scott D. Parker.  “Just as it has done since its founding in 1956, ADS will continue to support the independent diesel aftermarket.”

The Association of Diesel Specialist was formed in 1956 for “companies or concerns engaged in servicing and selling diesel fuel injection equipment, governors and immediately related accessories.” Over the next 67 years, 32 Presidents, hundreds of Board members and countless volunteers have worked together to develop various services and products to provide value to members.

The leadership of ADS just completed a conference call with our fellow organizers for Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week 2021 that was originally to be held in Grapevine, Texas in January 2021. It will now be held virtually from January 25-28th.

Several factors supported the decision, including a recent comprehensive survey of past HDAW attendees and careful monitoring of pandemic conditions by HDAW 2021 organizers. Ultimately, considering the current realities of the COVID-19 pandemic, HDAW 2021 organizers made the decision as the safest option for all industry attendees and partners.

ADS is committed to our partnership with HDAW. The leadership of ADS will be convening in the near future to explore the best options related to the ADS convention and other networking, training and education opportunities for 2021. Once details are finalized, an update will be sent.

The 2020 ADS Convention will be held January 26-30, 2020 co-located with Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas. ADS will hold its annual meeting and training sessions on Sunday and Monday before HDAW (see overall schedule here).

Gainesville, VA – May 2019 - The Association of Diesel Specialists (ADS) announces two technical training classes during the 2019 Convention and Trade Show, to be held July 29 - August 2, 2019 in Orlando, Florida. The technical training sessions will be in the morning and afternoon on Tuesday, July 30.

These classes will be available to registered convention attendees for only $25 per class and will be held at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel.     

The first class, “Cummins 5.9L & 6.7L Common Rail Diesel,” will be taught by Wally Mouradian of Automotive Training Group (ATG). This class was designed specifically to give a clear diagnostic path for engine management and emissions concerns. Bosch fuel systems and Cummins engines come together to create some confusing (and often invisible) Dodge/Ram repair information. Cummins designed the engines, but Dodge wrote the repair information. Very little practical diagnostic information was ever published, and what there is, lacks any explanation of the purpose of each test, or a clear direction to go with the results. This class will fill in those gaps and provide the training necessary to solve difficult problems and provide proper maintenance. 

“Diesel Exhaust Aftertreatment," taught by Michael Oliveros, will take place in the afternoon and include an in-depth presentation on Diesel Exhaust Aftertreatment systems. With discussion of diesel exhaust make-up, aftertreatment system history, federal emission standards, theory and operation. The class will provide a detailed analysis on individual system components and sub-systems including: Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC), Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR). Other topics will include system troubleshooting and diagnosis, and tips for component servicing and cost saving preventive maintenance, as well as future systems discussion. A full color class manual (50+ pages) will be given to each student.
